<clog_expressions>
bond = official paper given by the government or a company to show that you have lent them money that they will pay back to you at a particular interest rate
stock = amount of money that a company has through selling shares to people; part of the ownership of a company that can be bought by members of the public; government ~ money that people invest in the government, producing a fixed rate of interest
Porter's Five Forces = competitive rivalry, supplier power, buyer power, threat of substitution, and threat of new entry. This model encourages organizations to look beyond direct competitors when assessing strategy and, instead, consider broader environmental forces; it analyses the competitive environment of an industry, looking at its intensity and the bargaining power of suppliers and customers. SWOT analysis, meanwhile, is broader and assesses a company's internal strengths and weaknesses as well as its external opportunities and threats

bull run = period of time when prices rise on a financial market
house money = gambling term referring to when you've already won money and are now gambling with that; behavioural finance concept whereby people risk more with winnings than they would otherwise. The effect can be attributed to the perception that the investor has new money that wasn't theirs. There are many examples of this effect, but all show a common lack of rigour; means that you are gambling with money that you have already won
mental accounting = tendency of people to mentally segregate their financial resources into different categories. In the event of financial losses or gains in different mental accounts, people will be impacted differently than if the financial loss was integrated across their entire financial portfolio
loss aversion = cognitive bias in which the same situation is perceived as worse if it is framed as a loss, rather than a gain; opposite of over confidence

ether /ˈi:θə/ = upper part of the sky
to be in talks = to have serious and formal discussions on an important subject, usually intended to produce decisions or agreements
Minto Pyramid Principle (aka the McKinsey’s Pyramid Principle) = tool used to process and structure large amounts of information to convey a story, message or presentation without omitting important details. The principle of the McKinsey Pyramid is to cut to the chase in written texts or presentations. This ensures that the audience’s attention is captured and that a riveting story can be created that’s easy to remember and understand (src: https://www.toolshero.com/communication-skills/minto-pyramid-principle/)
greenwashing = occurs when an organization spends significantly more resources on "green" advertising than on environmentally sound practices. Many corporations use greenwashing to improve public opinion of their brands. Complex corporate structures can further obscure the bigger picture

more distribution channels added
promotion broadened
change from awareness building to brand building
product often extended through new products in same line

<strong>maturity phase</strong>
increased competition in market
may be necessary to lower prices
incentives offered to customers
promotion looks at product differentiation
sales growth stops or stagnates
profit margins decline
find way to produce more cheaply
make small changes to product
add new features
increase funds for promotion and discounts

<strong>decline phase </strong>
product can be maintained (possibly through new uses of product)
product can be harvested (costs reduced, sell to niche or other new market, or try to harvest as much as possible from brand) or discontinued
unit sales fall due to various reasons, e.g. outdated products or change in buying habits

Presentation by Marina
<div contenteditable="true">
Good morning everyone, and thank you for being here today. My name is Marina Grigoryeva, and I represent NeuroVenture Capital, a firm specializing in biotech investments. Today, I’m excited to present a groundbreaking biotech company that is developing a revolutionary drug for Alzheimer’s disease.
Imagine a world where Alzheimer’s is no longer a life sentence, but a treatable condition. This company might be the one to make it happen.
Let me start with a question: What if we could slow down Alzheimer’s disease and improve the lives of millions? That’s exactly what this company is working on /iŋɔn/. I will take you through a SWOT analysis, highlighting its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. By the end, we will consider if investing in this company is a smart decision.
Let’s start with strengths. The company was founded by three PhD scientists and is a leader in Alzheimer’s research. Their drug has passed /pa:st/ phase 1 trials, proving it is safe, and phase 2 looks promising. They also have an experienced management team.
However, there are weaknesses. The company is running out of funds and only has three months of financial resources left. Additionally, they don’t have other drugs in development, which increases the risk.
Now, looking at opportunities: there is a huge gap in the market, as no successful treatment for Alzheimer’s exists yet. With a growing aging population, the demand for such a drug is massive.
But threats exist too. Other labs are working on similar drugs, and competition is tough. If a competitor succeeds first, this company may struggle to stay relevant.
So, where does this leave us? The company has an innovative drug, a strong team, and a huge market opportunity—but it also faces financial challenges and competition. Is the potential reward worth the risk? Many investors would say yes, as the impact of success could be enormous.
Thank you for your attention. I’d be happy to answer any questions.

So, Let's get started.

Presentation by Marina
<div contenteditable="true">
Imagine this: a quiet railway station in a small town. The tracks stretch into the distance, but there’s one problem—no young professionals want to work here. Why?"

Good evening, everyone. My name Marina Grigoryeva, and I am senior expert at RZD. Today, I want to discuss a challenge that goes beyond just the railway industry—the growing unwillingness of young professionals to work in small towns.

This issue is particularly pressing for small railway stations. While the industry offers stability, young people are looking for more than just a secure job. They want career growth, comfortable living conditions, and social opportunities—things that many small towns struggle to provide. As a result, stations remain understaffed, and an entire sector risks losing its next generation of workers.

But is there a way to change this trend? Can we make railway jobs, and small-town employment in general, attractive again? I believe the answer is yes. And today, I will share concrete solutions to help reverse this decline.

Our discussion will take approximately [X] minutes. By the end of it, I hope to give you not just insights but also a vision for how we can bring young professionals back to these essential jobs.

So, let’s dive in.

Closing

Today, we explored the key challenges that small railway stations—and small towns in general—face in attracting young professionals. More importantly, we discussed practical solutions to restore the prestige of these jobs and make them appealing once again
This is not just a local issue—it affects the long-term sustainability of entire industries. If we fail to act, the labor shortage in small towns will only grow, weakening vital infrastructure. But with the right strategies—better wages, career opportunities, and improved living conditions—we can turn this around.

If you are interested in further details or have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at e-mail. I would be happy to continue this discussion.

Thank you for your time and attention! Let’s work together to create a future where working in a small town is not a compromise, but a real opportunity.

eureka /juəˈri:kə/ = I have found it! (announcing a discovery etc.)
against the grain (to go ~) = contrary to the natural inclination or feeling of someone or something
bipolar disorder = mental illness characterized by the alternation of manic and depressive states; depression is the more common symptom, and many patients experience only a brief period of overoptimism and mild euphoria during the manic phase
disinhibition (aka behavioural disinhibition) = medically recognized as an orientation towards immediate gratification, leading to impulsive behaviour driven by current thoughts, feelings, and external stimuli, without regard for past learning or consideration for future consequences. It is one of five pathological personality trait domains in certain psychiatric disorders. In psychology, it is defined as a lack of restraint manifested in disregard of social conventions, impulsivity, and poor risk assessment
schizophrenia /ˌskɪtsəuˈfri:njə/ = mental disease marked by a breakdown in the relation between thoughts, feelings, and actions, frequently accompanied by delusions and retreat from social life
dopamine /'dɔpə,main/ = central nervous system neurotransmitter essential to control of motion; it also acts as a hormone. Degeneration of certain dopamine-producing brain cells results in parkinsonism; often called the "happy hormone," dopamine results in feelings of well-being. A primary driver of the brain's reward system, it spikes when we experience something pleasurable
thalamus /'θæləməs/ = either of two masses of grey matter in the forebrain, serving as relay stations for sensory tracts
on the back burner = when something is temporarily not being dealt with or considered, especially because it is not urgent or important
27 Club = informal list consisting mostly of popular musicians, often expanded by artists, actors, and other celebrities who died at age 27. Although the claim of a "statistical spike" for the death of musicians at that age has been refuted by scientific research, it remains a common cultural conception that the phenomenon exists, with many celebrities who die at 27 noted for their high-risk lifestyles
extraneous /eksˈtreɪnjəs/ (~ to) = separate from the object to which it is attached
amorphous /əˈmɔːfəs/ = without a clearly defined shape or form.
off-the-cuff = without preparing ahead of time what you will say; without preparation
