### Anna Alekseeva
The students have access to our online school and their KPI is to complete not less than 1 unit per month (4 lessons) and to attend at least 1 individual class.
Their teacher's comment:
We have mostly worked through all the Level 14 EF book units. Their speaking is very good but they really struggle with conditionals. We have reviewed them before but they really need more work on them.Especially mixed conditionals. Alyona can be quite shy but her English is very good. Kirill reads and writes very well, but his speaking and listening needs practice. Iskander, is on level 15 and is doing wonderfully.
We'll have 2 more new students, who are going to attend a trial class: Alexander Shindin and Dmitry Fidelman

Urge for software alternatives in the face of sanctions

Microsoft starts rolling disconnection of its cloud products in Russia
MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Microsoft has started disconnecting its Russian corporate users from its cloud products in Russia, Softline (Softline Group) said on a Telegram channel dedicated to disconnecting foreign clouds.
"Microsoft, apparently, has approved the list of products to be disabled. Since yesterday evening, rolling stops of subscriptions in the CSP [cloud solution provider program] began; customers are being disconnected in batches of 5-10 at a time," the statement said.

UEFI secure boot
If enabled, secure boot only allows the machine to boot using "approved Operating Systems." Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always been under the impression that secure boot is mainly to help protect you from someone with physical access to your machine.
For example, imagine you're using a Windows machine and someone plugs in a Live USB with Kali to try and reset your password using chntpw. If secure boot was enabled, they would be prevented from booting into the Live USB.
If your threat model means you aren't worried about someone with physical access, then you may not need this setting. There have been times where I've needed to use a Live USB to chroot into a broken system and make repairs, so I can understand why someone may want to disable secure boot.

(...)

SecureBoot is a anti-tampering set of technologies that's implemented in your motherboard's firmware. To boot with secureboot on, your bootloader must be signed by whatever key is trusted by your motherboard's firmware, commonly, this means Microsoft's Third-Party CA keys. Some distros have agreements with Microsoft and therefore can be booted without a problem on a SecureBoot enabled system.

If your bootloader is not signed, or if the signature does not match, then the motherboard will NOT execute your bootloader, and often skip it entirely just display an error message.

However, having SecureBoot ON does not mean your system is secure, it only means that the motherboard is verifiying the autenticity of the bootloader, nothing more. Thus, you need to pair SecureBoot with additional measures if you wish to actually have system that's tamper-resistant, for example, Full Disk Encryption, TPM2 measurements, signed initrd (or a Unified Kernel Image).
